Starting a blog feels like climbing a mountain. It’s daunting. It might seem like blogs are past their prime (does anyone read blogs anymore?), yet it’s often where potential clients first go to get the feel of an online company’s vibe and legitimacy. Plus, there’s that SEO magic.
It’s not for a lack of topics though. In 2020, I left behind my traditional law practice to set up my own shop and experiment with virtual legal services. The access to justice crisis deeply troubles me—it’s partly due to an outdated legal model that struggles to provide basic services affordably. Diving into legal tech opened my eyes to innovations that could transform this industry. I’ve also dipped my toes into marketing and have some ideas why many legal consumers struggle to find suitable service providers. Joining new professional associations and connecting with the start-up community has brought me immense support and motivation.
I could write about my target clients, who are the heart of Butterfly Legal. Think pieces on Legal Coaching—a fresh form of unbundled legal services where lawyers and paralegals offer guidance while clients handle much of the work themselves—could be enlightening. Tech products that I use and test drive could definitely improve access to justice, and I have thoughts on that too. Legal marketing? Absolutely—ideas on how lawyers can make themselves discoverable by the right clients are buzzing in my brain. There’s also plenty to share from conversations with colleagues and allied legal professionals about their challenges in delivering accessible services. And let’s not forget legal service regulation—the shift towards a single regulator is packed with both risks and rewards worthy of scrutiny.
And yes, I’ll write about all of these. Perhaps these posts will connect with others beyond search engine crawlers. But even if they don’t, I’m excited to sort my thoughts on these subjects and share them.
This is Butterfly Legal. Welcome!
